Welcome to cheap guitars at cheapguitarsblog.com. I wanted to take a few minutes explaining where I think I’m headed with this site and also tell you a little bit about me. I got my first Sears Silvertone electric for Christmas some forty odd years ago when I was in somewhere between third and fifth grades. Took lessons playing “Down in the Valley” ad nauseum and so on and so forth. Played in the wishful thinking bands of pre to early teens, graduated to prom playing bands and finally to bar bands. During school I played trombone and eventually other low brass instruments. So a migration to bass guitar when called for in bands was a natural for me.

The interest in guitars and basses waxed and waned over the years. Favorite instruments came and went… often foolishly at both junctures. But I always managed to keep a couple around if for nothing else than that late night crying your heart out session.

One thing that remained consistent was that most of the instruments I’ve owned were cheap guitars. Sure money was a factor. Large sums and I have never been on a first name basis. But also there is something about the story behind a well worn pawn shop guitar that has always intrigued me. Mind you I’ve always tried to maintain my guitars in peak playability regardless of purchase price or paint chips. But I’ve also enjoyed working around the little foibles that naturally come with my low brow esoteric finds.

So where is this blog headed? I want to share with you some of my finds and fiascoes along with the stories of the ones that got away. I want to share with you tips of where to look for potential guitars and what to look for before laying down your cold hard cash. Eventually, I hope some of you will share your own stories as well. We’ll also review some of the great new cheap guitars being made today. That is one thing that certainly has changed. Didn’t used to be you could get a decent cheap guitar brand new but now some of the cheapies are so good, I don’t know why anyone would bother with their expensive uptown relatives. Particularly if you’re a working musician banging around in bars, vans, hotels, and airports.

So thats the gig as I see it at this point. Grab yourself a cold one out of the fridge. Grab a stool, tune up, and let’s jam out on some cheap guitars.
